Victoria Knauer-Hansen

Meet Victoria Knauer – Hansen, a hospitality professional and chapter leader for WHTT Hamburg.

What are your superpoweres?

My superpower is still a progress but over time I learned to act on my guts. Not only to listen to it. If you think about it there is a big difference. Strength and skills might sound boring but I totally believe in the simple things and really keeping them up. Treating people with kindness, meeting them with empathy, making compliments and encourage them in who they are.

How do your strengths play into the work you do?

Hopefully to inspire people to achieve their personal goals and confidence and knowing that nothing is impossible.

Imagine your best hotel experience – what does it look like?

While I worked in UAE I felt in love with the luxury hotel experience. It is a completely different way of service where everybody feels special. I like this illusion and magic the guests go through. The whole environment creates this world you are normally not in.

On the other hand, I enjoy the simple way of traveling. Just a car, good music, not really knowing where the day ends. I had that in France where I found amazing spots I wouldn’t have seen in any other way.

I believe when it comes to travelling, it all depends on where your head is at the time being.

What brings you the greatest joy at work?

Seeing that my impact is moving something and that people enjoy being a part of that. And definitely to have a good time while you spend so many hours together. Achieving goals is one thing but falling in love with the journey until you’re there is a different shoe.

My advice for women in hospitality and travel-tech:

Your value doesn’t decrease based on someones inability to see your worth. As cheesy as it sounds, you have to believe in yourself first. The rest will naturally flow and follow.

I experienced many times that people who didn’t really know me, tried to tell me what was right or wrong in my development. At first, I believed it because I was young and didn’t know better. Until I realised that nobody else takes action for me and my career.

I started to work a bit harder, got a voice and ignored the people who wanted to put me into a drawer. And suddenly, people noticing you differently and get drawn to you and your work. Surround yourself with folks who share the same vision, values and give you energy.
